Crane Service for Boats

Crane Service for Boats

Boat lifting, launching, and placement for owners and marinas across West Michigan. We handle the weight and the balance that make boat lifts their own specialty.

Why Boat Lifting Requires Its Own Approach

A boat is not a simple, evenly balanced load. The hull shape concentrates weight unevenly, the vessel can shift or roll if rigged incorrectly, and the lifting points have to be chosen specifically to avoid stressing the hull, the transom, or any fittings that were not designed to bear the boat’s full weight. Generic rigging that works for a flat, boxy load does not work safely on a boat, and treating a boat lift like any other pick is how hulls get damaged.

Rigging a Boat Correctly

Boats are typically rigged using slings positioned at points the hull is designed to bear weight at, often informed by the manufacturer’s recommended lifting points where available. Getting the sling placement wrong risks damaging the hull or causing the boat to hang unevenly during the lift, which makes controlled placement difficult and increases risk throughout the pick. We assess the hull design, the boat’s actual weight distribution, and any structural points that need extra care, like outdrives, swim platforms, or hull-mounted equipment, before slings ever go on.

Seasonal Launching and Haul-Out

Spring launching and fall haul-out are the most common boat lifts we perform, moving vessels between storage and the water at the start and end of the boating season. We coordinate timing with marinas and private owners so launching and haul-out happen on schedule with the rest of the seasonal transition, and we work efficiently through multiple boats in a single visit when a marina needs its whole fleet moved within a tight window.

Repositioning and Storage Placement

Beyond seasonal launching, boats frequently need to be repositioned within a marina, moved onto a trailer, set onto blocks for storage, or placed onto a lift system. Each of these requires the same careful rigging and controlled placement as a full launch, even though the boat may only be moving a short distance. A boat coming off blocks and going onto a trailer, for instance, needs the same attention to hull support as a full water launch, because the risk of damage does not scale down just because the distance moved is smaller.

Working With Marinas

We support marinas across West Michigan for both routine seasonal work and one-off lifts throughout the year. Marina work often involves multiple boats in a single visit, and we coordinate scheduling to move through a marina’s launch or haul-out list efficiently, working with the marina’s staff on sequencing so slips and storage spots are freed up and filled in the right order.

Private Boat Owners

Individual owners with a boat that needs to be moved, whether onto a trailer, into storage, or repositioned on their own property, get the same careful handling as marina work. We assess the boat’s size and weight, confirm the rigging approach, and plan the lift around the specific site, whether that is a private dock, a driveway, or a storage yard.

Protecting the Boat and the Site

A damaged hull from an improperly rigged lift is far more costly than the lift itself, so rigging is planned around protecting the vessel first. On land, we also protect the surrounding site, using ground protection where needed to avoid damage from crane setup near docks, driveways, or storage yards, and we coordinate the timing of the lift with water conditions where launching or hauling out directly from the water is involved.

What We Lift

  • Powerboats and sailboats of varying sizes
  • Seasonal launching and haul-out
  • Boats onto trailers or storage blocks
  • Repositioning within a marina or private property
  • Placement onto boat lift systems

Frequently Asked Questions

We rig using sling positions the hull is built to bear weight at, based on the boat's construction and manufacturer guidance where available, rather than generic rigging that risks stressing the hull or fittings that were not built for lifting loads.

Yes, this is the most common boat lifting work we do, coordinated on a seasonal schedule with marinas and private owners so the transition happens on time each season.

Yes, coordinated with whatever system is already in place at the property or marina, with the same careful rigging used for any other boat lift.

Both. We support marinas with ongoing seasonal work and individual owners with one-off lifts, moving efficiently through multiple boats when a marina needs its whole fleet handled.

It depends on the vessel's weight and the site conditions. Tell us the boat's size and weight and we will confirm the right crane for the job from our fleet, which runs up to 150 tons.
